Lovers Eyes
Strawinski’s fascination for eye portraiture and the symbolic language of love, loss and longing has enabled her through the traditional technique of oil painting, to explore notions of memory, identity, the seer and the seen.
“Original Georgian eye jewellery is very rare and expensive, so in reinventing these pieces I am sharing part of history - giving them a new twist. I paint on a small scale to draw the viewer in, hopefully creating an intimacy between the painting and the viewer. I want the viewer to feel slightly uneasy, feeling that they are being watched and observed. It is all about the Gaze called Intimate Vision."
